Since 2009, Forest Hill Presbyterian Church in Cleveland Heights has been providing fresh produce to people in need through their “Abundance Acres” community vegetable garden. The garden is very visible to the community because it is located on the church’s front lawn on a major street. Thus, people driving and walking by can readily see the Forest Hill’s commitment to addressing hunger and environmental justice. They feed about 60 people a week through the food pantry. The garden has also helped reduce lawn acreage. Volunteers drop by almost every day to maintain the garden. They are organized into teams and keep records of work done, problems noted, and vegetables harvested. In 2012, over 900 pounds of food were harvested and given away.
